Everything You Need To Know: Clear, Honest, And Reassuring Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Get clarity on legality, safety, and how our service works—from your first click to picking up your specialty medication in The Bahamas.

Legal Issues

Is it legal to bring specialty medicine from The Bahamas to the U.S.?

Yes, in most cases, you can legally bring a 90-day supply of your medication back to the U.S. for personal use, as long as:

  • The medication is FDA-approved
  • You have a valid prescription from your U.S. doctor
  • The medication is not a controlled substance
  • You declare it if asked by U.S. Customs

The FDA allows “personal importation” under enforcement discretion, especially when the medication treats a serious condition and is either too expensive or hard to access in the U.S. Thousands of Americans do this every year safely and legally.

How will I get through U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) with my prescription?

PharmaVisa will provide you with detailed instructions for how to carry your prescription through customs and how to navigate every situation you might expect.

Because U.S. Customs screening is in Nassau and not upon your arrival in the U.S., your customer service representative can and will be waiting just outside of Customs until you confirm you have made it through to your gate or cruise, and will assist you if needed.

We advise you to answer truthfully any questions asked by Customs and Border Patrol officials. Please contact us if you have any questions.

If Customs seizes my medicine, will I get my money back?

If you obtain a receipt/proof of confiscation and provide it to your PharmaVisa customer service representative, PharmaVisa will refund the full cost of your product.

If Customs seizes my medicine, what will happen to me?

In the highly unlikely event you are told you cannot bring your medicine into the U.S, ask the Customs and Border Patrol official if you can return the product to the PharmaVisa representative.

If your medicine is taken from you, you should obtain a receipt/record from a Customs and Border Patrol Official.

Call your PharmaVisa customer service representative, who will be waiting just outside Customs, and let them know what happened. They will go over your options with you and advise you on what to do next.

Do I need to declare my medication at Customs?

You do not need to declare that you are carrying the medication at U.S. Customs unless they ask you.  If they ask, you should answer truthfully and show your U.S. prescription.

How long will my order take to reach The Bahamas after I make a deposit?

Medications could arrive within 7 – 14 days after we receive your deposit. However, some specialty medications may take longer if they are not readily available or require sourcing from multiple suppliers.

PharmaVisa will keep you informed throughout the process and confirm your pickup date as soon as your order is ready.

Can I buy medicine from PharmaVisa if I don’t live in the U.S. or I’m not an American citizen?

Yes! While most of our clients are based in the U.S., PharmaVisa serves international patients as well.

Just reach out to our team to confirm availability and delivery timelines for your country and medication.

Quality + Safety

Do you guarantee the quality of your medications?

Yes. PharmaVisa only purchases medication from manufacturers and distributors authorized by the company who developed them.

The drugs are the same brand name meds as available in the U.S.—often made in the same plant at the same time—with the primary differences being the language(s) on the labeling and package and sometimes the appearance (e.g., shape, color) of the product.

PharmaVisa assures the product’s authenticity and “chain of custody”; in other words, we can trace the product back to the plant where it was manufactured, where it was distributed, and where it was wholesaled. We stand 100% behind the quality and safety of our medicines.

Are the medicines obtained from other countries the same quality as I would get in the U.S.?

Yes, they are. U.S. pharmaceuticals are made in many countries. In fact, 40% of the finished pharmaceutical products sold in the United States are imported from foreign countries.

These products are made by the same brand manufacturers and are often manufactured in the same plants as the U.S. supply.

Foreign prescription drugs can come from FDA-registered plants and are identical to those sold in U.S. pharmacies in every way except for their labeling, packaging, and sometimes the appearance (e.g., shape/color) of the product.

Our drugs are legally manufactured, safe, and effective per the regulatory authorities in their country of origin and their country of sale.

Travel

What if I am too sick to travel myself to pick up my prescription?

You may send a family member or close friend to be your representative and pick up your medication. They will need to have your original U.S. prescription when they come to The Bahamas.

What does my representative need in order to pick up my medication?

A trusted friend or family member can pick up your medication if they have:

  • A valid prescription from your U.S. doctor
  • A signed authorization letter from you (it must specify the representative’s name and their ID number)
  • A copy of your ID
  • Their own government-issued ID
  • The invoice and labeled medication packaging
Can you ship the medicine to me so that I do not have to travel or send a representative?

No, you or a designated representative must come to The Bahamas to pick up your medication in person.

Because the specialty medications we source for you are extremely valuable, we want to minimize the risk of loss.

The safest and most secure way to get your needed prescriptions is to carry them in your hands, or in those of a designated family member or close friend, back to your home.

Costs

Why don't you list prices on the website?

As prices can fluctuate daily, please contact us with your prescription in hand in order receive accurate pricing options for the medication you need.

You may reach us via our Website Chat, Email or Phone.

Why are your medicines less expensive than in the U.S.?

Americans pay some of the highest prices for prescription drugs among developed nations—anywhere from two to six times more than the rest of the world.

The reasons are varied and complex. U.S. drug manufacturers set their own prices, as opposed to other countries in which drug prices are regulated and often negotiated by government entities and/or national health programs.
